Downtown Crossing Traffic Changes for Next Week
The following closures and lane restrictions are expected next week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:
Kentucky Side:
Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 3:
  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday-Thursday(September 3-5) for demolition work in the area.  It’s scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • The ramp from I-71 South to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday-Thursday(September 3-5) for temporary striping and the placement of temporary barrier wall.  It’s scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday-Thursday (September 3-5) for demolition work in the area.  It’s scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • The right lane of I-64 West to the I-65 South ramp from Witherspoon Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, September 3 for demolition work in the area.  It’s scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.
Louisville Streets:
Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 3:
  • All day lane restrictions are expected on Witherspoon Street from Preston Street to Adams Street on Tuesday, September 3 for demolition work in the area.  One lane will be open in each direction.
  • Witherspoon Street from Preston Street to Adams Street is scheduled to close overnightTuesday, September 3 for demolition work in the area.  It will close around 8 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.
  • The right lane of Jackson Street from Market to Main Street is scheduled to be closedTuesday through Friday (September 3-6) for utility work.
  • The right lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed Tuesday, September 3 for work in the area.
Indiana Side (Continuing Work):
  • US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue will be reduced to two lanes for the next several months.
  • US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, will be reduced to one lane for the next several months.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
