RiverLink Hits Milestone: 200,000 Transponders

Nearly 100,000 RiverLink accounts opened

Jan. 26, 2017 – Less than one month after the start of tolling on three Ohio River bridges connecting Louisville and Southern Indiana, RiverLink has hit a major milestone. More than 200,000 RiverLink transponders have been requested to date.

Drivers have requested nearly 164,000 RiverLink local transponders and nearly 37,000 RiverLink E-ZPass transponders. Tolling on the new SR 265 Lewis and Clark Bridge, the new I-65 Abraham Lincoln Bridge and the improved I-65 Kennedy Bridge started Dec. 30.

Because of extremely high demand, RiverLink local transponders were out of stock for a short period of time. RiverLink local transponders are back in stock at customer service centers in Louisville and Jeffersonville, and orders are being fulfilled for drivers who opened RiverLink accounts online or by phone in late December and January.

Drivers who requested RiverLink local transponders should expect to receive them by mid-February. It’s important for drivers to properly mount their transponders as soon as they arrive. A transponder is placed on the inside of the windshield, as high and as central as possible. It may be placed on the driver side or passenger side of the rearview mirror.

Drivers with prepaid RiverLink accounts are paying the lowest rates while waiting for transponders to arrive. RiverLink E-ZPass transponders have remained in stock.

More than 93,000 RiverLink accounts have been opened to date. Drivers with prepaid accounts and transponders pay the lowest rates.

Outstanding Tolls Reduced for New Account Holders

The first RiverLink invoices are being processed. Vehicle owners who receive invoices can contact RiverLink customer service by phone or in person, open a prepaid RiverLink account and receive lower toll rates. Vehicle owners can request that current, outstanding tolls be reduced to the transponder rate. Trips taken before opening a prepaid RiverLink account will not qualify for the frequent-user discount.

It costs $2 to cross a tolled bridge in a passenger vehicle with a RiverLink prepaid account and transponder, and $4 to cross a tolled bridge without an account and transponder.

Vehicle owners must complete three steps:

1. Call 855-RIV-LINK or visit a RiverLink customer service center
2. Pay the current invoice (outstanding tolls will be reduced to transponder rates)
3. Open a prepaid RiverLink account

Vehicle owners are not able to open a RiverLink account online if there are outstanding tolls associated with the license plate.

Customer service centers are located at 400 E. Main St. in Louisville and 103 Quartermaster Ct. in Jeffersonville. The centers are open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Friday. They are also open 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday.

Waiting for Transactions to Post

Drivers should allow several days for their trips over tolled bridges and transactions to post. Drivers with RiverLink transponders mounted in their vehicles will typically see toll activity post to their accounts within 24-48 hours. If the transaction is being reviewed, it may take several days to post.

It will take several days for drivers waiting for transponders to arrive to see their trips post on their account. License plates are scanned and matched to prepaid accounts.

Frequent-User Discount

The frequent-user discount is per transponder, not per account. The credit is automatic after 40 trips are posted on any of the three tolled bridges in a calendar month. The frequent-user discount is only for qualifying drivers in passenger vehicles with RiverLink transponders and a prepaid RiverLink account in good standing.

The frequent-user discount is automatic, but 40 trips must post before the discount is received. It can take several days for transactions to post. The frequent-user credit will post after the 40^th trip is processed and recorded for the month of January, even if the trip doesn’t post until February.

Drivers can monitor account activity by logging into their account at www.RiverLink.com. After allowing ample time for transactions to post, an email is the easiest way to ask questions about account activity. Drivers can direct their questions to riverlink.inquiry@riverlink.com. Drivers should include their license plate number, account number and transponder number.

Replenishing Accounts

With tolling underway, it’s important for drivers to monitor their account balance. If drivers reach a zero or negative balance, they will pay higher toll rates and crossings won’t count toward the frequent-user discount.

Drivers can link a credit card, debit card or checking account to their prepaid RiverLink account, to automatically replenish their account when reaching a low balance. The minimum replenishment amount is $20. Drivers with auto-replenishment need to have an updated, valid payment option associated with their account.

Drivers can also choose to receive a low-balance alert. When their RiverLink account reaches a low balance, drivers will receive an e-mail alert, and will then need to add more money to their prepaid account. Additional funds can be added online, by phone or in person at a customer service center.

Callback Feature Available

High demand has led to lengthy hold times for drivers calling RiverLink (855-RIV-LINK). Additional customer service representatives are now in place, and a callback feature is available. Drivers have the option of leaving a preferred callback number, and a customer service representative will return the call.

The callback feature is offered through 3 p.m. each day, to help ensure a timely response.

RiverLink Local Transponders Back in Stock

Drivers will receive their transponders in coming days

Jan. 20, 2017 – RiverLink local transponders are back in stock at customer service centers in Louisville and Jeffersonville. The transponders are available to drivers opening prepaid RiverLink accounts. Orders are being fulfilled, and drivers who opened accounts online or by phone in late December and January will receive their transponders in the mail in the coming days. Transponders are mailed free of charge.

Drivers that have requested RiverLink local transponders should expect to receive them by mid-February. RiverLink E-ZPass transponders have remained in stock.

Customer service centers are located at 400 E. Main St. in Louisville and 103 Quartermaster Ct. in Jeffersonville. The centers are open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Friday. They are also open 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday.

 

Drivers with Prepaid Accounts are Paying Lowest Rates

Drivers with RiverLink accounts waiting for transponders to arrive are paying the lowest rates, including the frequent-user discount. License plates are being scanned, matched to prepaid accounts and the transponder rate applied until transponders are delivered.

Drivers have requested more than 195,000 RiverLink transponders to date, including more than 160,000 RiverLink local transponders and nearly 36,000 RiverLink E-ZPass transponders. More than 87,000 families and nearly 3,000 businesses have opened RiverLink accounts.

 

Mounting Transponders

It’s important for drivers to properly mount their transponders as soon as they arrive. A transponder is placed on the inside of the windshield, as high and as central as possible. It may be placed on the driver side or passenger side of the rearview mirror.

Transponders should be mounted three inches away from any metal, tint, antenna or defroster.

Drivers should avoid extreme temperatures when mounting their transponders. During cold weather, drivers can warm their car for a few minutes before mounting a transponder.

Kentucky: Lane closures on KY 841 January 23-27,2017

January 19, 2017  – The right lane of KY 841 (the Gene Snyder Freeway) northbound through the tunnel will closed starting at 8:00 p.m. and reopening by 5:00 a.m. from January 23-25, 2017.  The right lane of KY 841 southbound through the tunnel will closed starting at 8:00 p.m. and reopening by 5:00 a.m. from January 25-27, 2017.

 

Personnel and vehicles will be present on the shoulders of KY 841 and SR 265 therefore motorists are asked to use caution in this area.

First RiverLink Invoices Will Be Mailed Soon

Drivers can open accounts and reduce charges

 Jan. 19, 2017 – Vehicle owners without prepaid RiverLink accounts will soon receive their first invoices for tolled bridge crossings between Louisville and Southern Indiana. Not all vehicle owners will receive invoices at the same time. The first invoices will be sent Friday, with additional mailings to follow in the coming days.

Drivers with prepaid accounts and transponders pay the lowest toll rates. For drivers without prepaid RiverLink accounts, cameras capture license plates and invoices are mailed to registered vehicle owners. Toll rates are higher because of higher administrative costs.

Vehicle owners who receive bills in the mail can still receive lower toll rates, if they contact RiverLink customer service, open a prepaid RiverLink account and request a transponder.

 

RiverLink Invoices

Two one-way crossings in a passenger vehicle, over any of the tolled bridges, will trigger an invoice. Any additional crossings in the vehicle are collected for the next 15 days, and an invoice is mailed to the owner of the vehicle. Additional tolled bridges crossings after the initial invoice, and multiple vehicles registered to the same address, will be billed in separate invoices. Bills are not combined.

Bills can be paid online (www.RiverLink.com, click on the green log-in button at the top right of the screen), by mail, by phone or in person at a RiverLink customer service center.

Invoices are mailed using the following schedule:

1. The first RiverLink invoice includes only tolls owed, and no additional fees. Vehicle owners have 30 days to pay the bill.
2. If the bill is not paid, a second bill will be mailed that includes a $5 administrative fee. Vehicle owners have 20 days to pay the second invoice.
3. If the second bill is not paid, the vehicle owner is in violation and a $25 violation fee is added to the third invoice. The driver has 30 days to pay the third bill.
4. If the invoice is still not paid, the bill moves to collections and a $30 collections fee is added to the total amount. In addition to moving to the collections process, vehicle owners in Kentucky and Indiana who do not pay their tolls may face restrictions on vehicle registration until tolls and related fees are paid.

Enforcement ensures tolling is fair, and helps to keep rates as low as possible.

Check Invoices Carefully

Each statement will detail trips on tolled bridges for about a 15-day period. The invoice will include the date and time of each crossing, which tolled bridge was crossed and the amount of the toll.

Incredibly High Demand for RiverLink Transponders

More are being ordered; account holders will pay lowest rates

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 2, 2017) – Scores of drivers being introduced to RiverLink, the new, all-electronic tolling system for the Ohio River Bridges Project, are opening accounts and ordering transponders. Incredibly high demand for RiverLink transponders means supplies are being depleted more quickly than anticipated. All remaining RiverLink local and RiverLink E-ZPass transponders are expected to be distributed early this week.

Drivers with RiverLink accounts waiting for transponders to arrive will pay the lowest rates, including the frequent-user discount. For these drivers only, the requirement that transponders be properly mounted in passenger vehicles to receive the frequent-user discount is being temporarily waived.

An automatic $40 credit is applied to a RiverLink personal account when a driver makes 40 tolled crossings per assigned transponder per calendar month.

“We knew interest in RiverLink transponders would be high, but demand has skyrocketed over the past few weeks,” said Megan McLain, tolling project manager with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. “From July through November, more than 70,000 RiverLink transponders had been ordered. Nearly 100,000 additional RiverLink transponders were ordered just in December, outpacing total demand since we launched operations.”

An order for additional RiverLink transponders was placed in mid-December. Additional RiverLink E-ZPass transponders are expected to be available later this month. Additional RiverLink local transponders are being produced, and may not be available for several weeks.

“Tens of thousands of drivers are clearly getting the message that having a transponder will save them money,” said Clint Murphy, director of tolling oversight for the Indiana Department of Transportation. “There’s no reason for these drivers to worry as we replenish our inventory. All drivers who open RiverLink accounts will pay the lowest rates until their transponders are in hand.”

License plates will be scanned, matched to prepaid accounts and the transponder rate applied until transponders are delivered. This will ensure drivers who have opened prepaid RiverLink accounts and are waiting for their transponders will enjoy the same lower rates as drivers with prepaid RiverLink accounts who have properly mounted their transponders.

Drivers who already have their RiverLink transponders need to make sure they’re properly mounted. A transponder is placed on the inside of the windshield, as high and as central as possible. It may be placed on the driver side or passenger side of the rearview mirror.

Transponders should be mounted three inches away from any metal, tint, antenna or defroster.

Drivers should avoid extreme temperatures when mounting their transponders. During cold weather, drivers can warm their car for a few minutes before mounting a transponder.

Tolling is Underway

Tolling on the Louisville – Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project started Friday, Dec. 30. The new SR 265 Lewis and Clark Bridge, the new I-65 Abraham Lincoln Bridge and the improved I-65 Kennedy Bridge are tolled.

The Kennedy and Lincoln bridges provide 12 lanes of I-65 traffic connecting Downtown Louisville and Southern Indiana. The Lincoln Bridge carries six lanes of I-65 North traffic, and the Kennedy carries six lanes of I-65 South traffic. The Lewis and Clark Bridge, which opened to traffic Dec. 18, connects the Gene Snyder Freeway in Prospect, Ky. with State Road 265 in Utica, Ind.

RiverLink is all-electronic tolling, with no toll booths, no coin machines, no lines and no stopping. Drivers should not slow down or stop. Cameras will capture the license plates of drivers without transponders, and bills will be sent in the mail.

Toll rates range from $2-12, depending on the size of the vehicle and whether the driver has a prepaid RiverLink account and has requested a transponder. A driver in a passenger vehicle who has ordered a transponder will pay $2 to cross a tolled bridge. A driver in a passenger vehicle without a transponder will pay $4.

Drivers have the option of selecting a RiverLink local transponder or a RiverLink E-ZPass transponder. A RiverLink local transponder is free, one per registered vehicle. The small sticker adheres to the inside of the windshield, is non-transferable and works only on the Lewis and Clark, Lincoln and Kennedy bridges.

E-ZPass transponders from tolling systems in all 16 E-ZPass states are accepted by the RiverLink system. A RiverLink E-ZPass transponder costs $15. It’s portable from vehicle to vehicle registered to a single account and works in all E-ZPass states.

Drivers can register additional license plates to their RiverLink E-ZPass transponders online at www.RiverLink.com, by phone or in person at a customer service center.

Opening RiverLink Accounts

Drivers can open accounts online at www.RiverLink.com, by phone at 855-RIV-LINK or in person at one of two customer service centers. The website is the fastest option to open an account. It’s open 24 hours a day/7 days a week with no wait. Customers opening accounts online or by phone will have their transponders mailed to them, once supplies are replenished.

More than 170,000 RiverLink transponders have been requested to date, including more than 140,000 RiverLink local transponders and more than 31,000 RiverLink E-ZPass transponders. More than 75,000 families and nearly 2,400 businesses have opened RiverLink accounts.

Just over 110,000 drivers are expected to use the tolled bridges each day.

Customer service centers are located at 400 E. Main St. in Louisville and 103 Quartermaster Ct. in Jeffersonville. The centers are open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Friday. They are also open 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday.
